Case Summary
Authorities in Prayagraj are examining the circumstances surrounding the death of 17‑year‑old Shantanu, a resident of Kohna, whose remains were recovered from a drain close to Soham Ashram in the Haveliya area of Jhunsi police jurisdiction.
A Phone Call Sets the Night in Motion
Family members say Shantanu received a phone call on Monday night. Shortly after the call, he mounted his scooter and rode away, never to return.
When hours passed without any sign of him, relatives grew anxious and began searching that night, continuing their efforts into the early hours of Tuesday.
Scooter Leads Searchers to the Drain
During the morning sweep, relatives spotted Shantanu’s scooter parked beside a drain near Soham Ashram. Upon closer inspection they found the teenager lying face‑down inside the drainage channel.
The shocking discovery devastated the family, who instantly notified the police.
Police Arrive and Launch Investigation
Officers from the Jhunsi police station reached the scene, secured the body and opened a formal inquiry to piece together the events between the teen’s departure and his detection.
Investigators are focusing on the phone call that prompted his exit, aiming to trace the caller, map Shantanu’s movements after leaving home, and identify anyone who may have interacted with him during the night.
Autopsy Pending – Cause of Death Unknown
At present, the exact cause of death remains undetermined. Police have begun questioning nearby residents, gathering forensic evidence, and are treating the case as potentially violent while also keeping other possibilities open.
A post‑mortem examination has been scheduled, and its findings are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s demise.
Family Awaits Answers
Shantanu was the younger of two brothers; his elder sibling is Anmol. Their mother, Rekha Devi, passed away in 2018.
The grieving family now waits for the investigation and autopsy results to understand how their son met this tragic end.
Police have confirmed that the probe remains active and that further details will emerge as evidence, witness statements, and medical reports are examined.
