Meerut Court Issues Verdict in Amit Kashyap Homicide Case

On Wednesday, Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar of Meerut’s District Court No. 12 delivered a guilty verdict against Ravita, the widow of the late Amit Kashyap, and her alleged paramour Amardeep. Both defendants were escorted from the jail under tight security to hear the judgment.

How the Crime Unfolded

The incident traces back to April 2025, when Amit Kashyap’s lifeless body was found inside his home in the Bahsuma police‑station area of Akbarpur Sadat village. Prosecutors allege that Ravita and Amardeep plotted the killing.

Prosecution’s Version of a Staged Attack

According to the state’s case, Ravita allegedly held her husband while Amardeep strangled him. Investigators quickly ruled out an accidental death, treating the episode as a pre‑meditated murder.

A striking element of the prosecution’s theory was the attempt to mask the homicide as a snakebite. After the murder, a live snake was supposedly placed beside the corpse to mislead the police.

The first person to notice something was wrong was Amit’s five‑year‑old son, Aniket, who found his father unresponsive the next morning. Relatives arrived, saw a snake near the body and captured the reptile in a container.

Medical reports later disproved the snake‑bite hypothesis, prompting investigators to shift focus and eventually arrest Ravita and Amardeep.

Key Witnesses Who Shaped the Trial

The prosecution called twelve witnesses. Amit’s mother Munesh and his brother Monu testified that they saw Amardeep entering the house on the night of the murder.

A local snake‑charmer also took the stand, identifying Amardeep as the person who supplied the snake purportedly for a religious program, bolstering the claim that the reptile was deliberately introduced to fabricate a false cause of death.

Defense’s Counter‑Arguments

Ravita chose not to present any witnesses in her defense. Amardeep’s uncle attempted to create an alibi, stating that his nephew was staying at his maternal uncle’s house on the day in question.

Verdict and What Comes Next

After weighing the evidence, the court found both Ravita and Amardeep guilty of murder, bringing the trial phase to a close. Amit’s mother Munesh appealed for a stringent sentence. The sentencing hearing is set for 16 October.
