Kurukshetra: After a relentless five‑day search, the lifeless body of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage laborer from Ismailabad was retrieved on Tuesday from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to the village of Kirmich.
Discovery and Confirmation of Identity
Locals identified the deceased as Dharmbir, popularly called Bablu, who was the sole provider for his three daughters. Residents noticed a motionless figure near a canal siphon and immediately alerted nearby divers.
Diver Pragat Singh headed the underwater team that lifted the body from the water. Police matched the recovered remains with missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups. Once the identity was verified, the information was relayed to KUK police, and Dharmbir’s family in Ismailabad was informed.
His father, Lal Chand, and his brother arrived at the site, confirmed the identification, and handed the corpse over to authorities. The body was then taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a post‑mortem investigation.
Family’s Report of His Disappearance
According to relatives, Dharmbir left his home on the afternoon of October 1 and never returned. After scouring nearby areas, the family lodged a missing‑person report with the Ismailabad police station.
His father told investigators that Dharmbir had been under personal strain for a while. As a daily‑wage laborer, he often complained about severe hand pain caused by the physically demanding nature of his job.
The family also revealed that Dharmbir’s three daughters range in age from eighteen months to twelve years. He lived separately from his brothers, and no known disputes or enemies were reported.
Police Investigation
KUK police Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar confirmed that officers reached the canal after receiving a tip about a possible body. Following verification by Dharmbir’s relatives, the remains were dispatched for an autopsy.
Investigators added that any further legal steps will hinge on the post‑mortem results and any additional evidence uncovered during the inquiry.
