Gurugram: On Monday night, a milk vendor was allegedly assaulted with a knife and stripped of ₹12,000 while traveling near the Sector‑7 market. The victim, identified as Narendra Bhadana of New Colony, suffered injuries that required admission to a government hospital. After providing his statement, the New Colony police apprehended a suspect later that same evening.

Victim was returning after completing his deliveries

Bhadana, who supplies milk to households in the Sector‑7 area, had finished his routine deliveries and cash collections when the incident occurred. He was carrying the day's earnings, amounting to ₹12,000, as he headed back home.

While traversing a secluded stretch of road, a young man intercepted him. The encounter quickly escalated when the assailant brandished a knife and struck Bhadana in the chest and abdomen. Despite attempting to fight back and seize the attacker, Bhadana was overpowered and the perpetrator fled with the cash bag.

Injured vendor found on the roadside

Passersby discovered the wounded man collapsed on the pavement and alerted the authorities. Police arrived promptly, arranged for his transport to the nearest government hospital, and recorded his testimony.

The victim’s account gave investigators a clear timeline and helped them pinpoint the alleged attacker, prompting an immediate search operation.

Suspect arrested within hours

Police identified the suspect as Harpreet Singh, also known as “Bobby,” a resident of Krishna Colony. A rapid police response led to his detention later that night.

Investigators are now interrogating Singh to uncover the motives behind the assault and robbery. Early findings indicate that a personal rivalry may have played a role, though the inquiry remains open.

Authorities probing the motive

While the theft of ₹12,000 is a clear financial gain, detectives are also exploring whether a prior dispute between Bhadana and the accused contributed to the violence. They are assessing whether the cash was the primary trigger or merely a secondary benefit.

Further details, including the recovery of the stolen money and the weapon used, are expected to emerge as the case proceeds.

Ongoing investigation

The incident underscores the risks faced by informal sector workers in the city. Police continue to examine all evidence, re‑interview witnesses, and verify the victim’s statement. Harpreet Singh remains in custody pending further legal action.

Bhadana continues to receive medical care for his injuries, while the investigation advances based on his testimony and the preliminary evidence collected.
