A Sudden Burst of Gunfire Shakes Kotla Chungi

At roughly 9:45 pm on Tuesday, a series of gunshots echoed through the bustling Kotla Chungi crossing in Firozabad. The bullets, fired from a legally‑owned revolver, sent shopkeepers, pedestrians and the lingering crowd from a Ramleela performance scrambling for safety, turning the normally lively market into a chaotic scene.

Those Injured

The two people caught in the crossfire were:

  • Shipra Tailang, 35, a resident of Gunjan Enclave, Mathura Nagar. She has been married to Rishabh "Bunty" Tailang for about ten years and was staying with her parents after a two‑year marital standoff.
  • Sunny Thakur, a young entrepreneur who runs an internet‑service shop from a rented space close to the crossing.

Police say Shipra was visiting a relative’s home to discuss family matters when the shooting erupted, while Sunny was inside his shop attending to customers.

Extent of Injuries

Both victims sustained serious gunshot wounds:

  • Shipra: multiple bullet wounds to the shoulder, abdomen and ribs, with one projectile narrowly missing her hand.
  • Sunny: injuries to the chest and rib cage, severe enough to require transfer to a specialist hospital in Agra.

Emergency responders rushed both victims to the government trauma centre for immediate treatment.

Police Action and Apprehension

Officers stationed near Kotla Chungi heard the shots, sprinted to the location, and pursued the suspect. Within minutes they recovered the revolver and placed the shooter under custody. Senior officials, including SP City Ravishankar Prasad and CO City Santosh Kumar, arrived shortly thereafter to supervise the investigation.

Background of the Conflict

According to police records, Shipra and Rishabh’s marriage had been under strain for almost two years. Shipra’s brother, Shashank, alleges the tension stemmed from Rishabh’s alleged involvement with another woman. Shipra confirmed she was in the middle of a family‑mediated discussion when the gunfire broke out.

She is the mother of two young sons, who remain under her care while the case proceeds.

Investigation Ongoing

Investigators are reviewing witness testimonies, forensic findings and the couple’s marital history to pinpoint a motive. The seized firearm has been logged, and the accused remains in police custody pending further legal steps.

Impact on the Community

The incident occurred just after a popular Ramleela performance, meaning many locals were still making their way home through the market. Witnesses described a frantic scramble as the shooter chased the fleeing victims, heightening fear among onlookers.

Authorities have appealed to residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity as they continue to piece together the events of that harrowing night.
