Dehradun – In a synchronized operation, the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) joined forces with Dehradun police to close down a suspected illegal call centre located on GMS Road. Investigators say the outfit relied on a 32‑slot SIM box to route calls through personal mobile numbers, sidestepping the legally required 1600‑series helpline.
Seizure at Singh Asset Recon Services
The bust took place at the headquarters of SINGH ASSET RECON SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED (SARS). Officers recovered a DINSTAR 32‑slot SIM box, a stack of 45 SIM cards, a laptop, two routers, two ATM cards and a range of other electronic devices.
Customer information uncovered
Forensic analysis of the laptop revealed files that appear to belong to credit‑card holders from several banks, including SBI, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, Poonawalla Finance, Yes Bank and RBL Bank. Police are currently tracing the source and intended misuse of this data.
Method of operation
According to statements from detainees, agents contacted victims while posing as representatives of credit‑card issuers, promoting alleged benefits and urging immediate deposits. In numerous cases, callers allegedly resorted to pressure, threats or intimidation to extract sensitive details or force money transfers.
The scheme did not employ the authorized 1600‑series numbers. Instead, each call was funneled through a personal mobile line, a maneuver made possible by the confiscated SIM box, which can conceal the true origin of the call.
Workforce and remuneration
Authorities identified roughly 39 young men and women operating on the floor, all compensated on a commission basis for securing “appointments” or “sales” over the phone.
Arrests and legal proceedings
Two senior officials were taken into custody: company manager Laxman Prasad and regional manager Jagmohan Singh Rawat. A case has been lodged at Dehradun’s Cyber Crime Police Station under Crime No. 49/2026. Investigators are invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act and the Telecommunications Act.
Ongoing investigation
The team continues to examine the seized equipment, call logs and customer records to map the full extent of the operation and identify any additional participants.
