Trainee’s formal complaint
The Kanke police have opened a case after a clinical‑psychology trainee from the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) in Ranchi lodged a report alleging that a fellow student assaulted her inside the institute’s postgraduate hostel.
Details recorded in the FIR
The complainant, a clinical‑psychology trainee, was residing in the institute’s postgraduate hostel when she entered Room 54 on the night of 28 June to conduct a psychometry session, a method used for psychological assessment. She says she began to feel light‑headed shortly thereafter.
According to her statement, the accused—identified as Sarthak Chaudhary, an M.Phil. candidate from the same department—offered her water from a steel bottle. She alleges that after drinking it her condition deteriorated, leaving her unable to fully grasp what happened next.
Alleged sexual assault
The trainee claims Chaudhary asked her to lie on the bed. When she refused, he allegedly forced her to remain in the locked room and proceeded to sexually assault her without consent, restraining her during the act.
After the incident
She says she was finally permitted to leave the room at around 5 a.m. on 29 June. Overcome by fear and shock, she did not approach the police immediately, but later reported the matter and demanded legal action against the alleged perpetrator.
Police action
Kanke police have filed an FIR and are collecting all pertinent evidence. Investigators intend to examine CCTV recordings from the hostel corridors and the interior of Room 54, as well as retrieve call‑detail records and location data for the period surrounding the alleged assault.
All gathered material will be analyzed to reconstruct the timeline of events and verify the trainee’s allegations. The investigation remains active, and the accusations will be addressed through the formal legal process.
Next steps
The probe is ongoing. If the evidence supports the trainee’s account, the accused could face criminal charges under India’s sexual‑offence legislation.
