Dehradun. The Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026 was officially kicked off on Tuesday at Graphic Era University, aiming to forge technology‑driven answers to the state’s geographic and societal hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister for Information Technology, Science & Technology, and Biotechnology, and drew roughly 500 participants ranging from students and teachers to seasoned technologists and budding innovators.

Why the 90‑day challenge matters

Over three months, the hackathon will channel youthful energy and cutting‑edge expertise into concrete prototypes that address real‑world problems across Uttarakhand. Core focus areas include disaster mitigation, traffic and crowd flow management, accessible health services, environmental stewardship, wildlife protection, tourism enhancement, and the promotion of good governance.

Technology pillars

Participants are encouraged to leverage artificial intelligence, data analytics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and drone technology to reshape public services. Specific themes cover AI‑powered government knowledge bases, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enhanced GIS mapping, ecological impact modelling, AI‑assisted preparation of DPRs and RFPs, and aerial surveillance via drones.

"Uttarakhand’s youth and academic institutions hold the key to innovative solutions for our unique challenges," said Minister Pradept Batra, urging innovators to apply technology to the everyday problems faced by citizens.

Roadmap of the hackathon

  • Problem discovery and idea generation
  • Prototype creation with mentorship from domain experts
  • Rigorous evaluation by a panel of judges
  • Top solutions progress to pilot testing, incubation and industry partnership phases

Special attention will be given to tools that predict traffic loads during seasonal pilgrimages, monitor environmental stressors, map disaster‑prone zones, and boost emergency response capabilities. Solutions that streamline access to government services in remote mountain villages will also be a priority.

Collaborative ecosystem

The event is organized by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA), in partnership with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a network of academic, governmental and industry stakeholders. Its overarching goal is to nurture home‑grown technological remedies by strengthening ties between colleges, state departments, the tech community and young creators.

By the end of the 90‑day journey, the hackathon aspires to deliver citizen‑centric, responsible innovations that can be scaled across Uttarakhand, setting a template for other regions seeking tech‑enabled progress.
