Targeted Outreach to Retrieve Omitted Electors

After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) concluded, the election apparatus in Uttar Pradesh has launched a dedicated drive aimed at identifying citizens whose names were inadvertently left out of the freshly updated electoral roll.

Matching Pre‑SIR and Current Lists

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are now touring neighborhoods, comparing the pre‑SIR register with the present one. Anyone who appears on the older list but is missing today will be approached, their details confirmed, and assisted in filing a Form 6 to secure their inclusion.

First‑Time Voter Focus

The initiative also zeroes in on young adults turning 18 for the first time. Each BLO has been assigned a quota of roughly 20‑25 new‑eligible voters per week, with the goal of completing this segment within a four‑week window.

Special Camps for Hard‑to‑Reach Communities

To simplify registration for marginalized groups, temporary assistance camps will be established at the booth level. Particular emphasis will be placed on occupants of night shelters, labour colonies, the homeless, and other vulnerable sections. Awareness activities will be coordinated through schools, local NGOs, and the SVEEP programme.

Layered Monitoring and Transparency

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has directed district officials and registration officers to keep a continuous watch on progress. Data will be collated and reviewed at state, district, and booth tiers, with a strict one‑month deadline to finish household verification.

Significance of the Initiative

The Election Commission has urged all states that have completed the SIR to undertake corrective measures, guaranteeing that every eligible voter—whether previously missed or newly qualified—gets a fair chance to register.
