New Delhi. In a dramatic operation just after midnight, Delhi police captured two individuals linked to a shooting at a house in the Bhajanpura area. Both were hit in the legs by police fire. The raid also yielded three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 cartridges and an unregistered two‑wheeler.

Who were the arrested persons?

The detainees are identified as 23‑year‑old Jasim, locally nicknamed “Aloo,” a resident of Welcome, and 23‑year‑old Kaif, who goes by “DJ.”

What triggered the confrontation?

According to official statements, the pair opened fire on officers attempting to block their escape. Several rounds struck the bullet‑proof vests of the policemen before they returned fire, wounding both suspects and securing their capture.

First account of the gunfire

The episode unfolded on 2 October at about 2:43 a.m. in Gali No. 16, Subhash Vihar, North Ghonda, under the jurisdiction of Bhajanpura police station. A resident on his balcony reported two youths arriving on a scooter, brandishing pistols, firing at him and into the air, then speeding away.

The stray shots shattered the balcony’s glass railing and dented the outer wall, though nobody was injured. A case was lodged under sections dealing with attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.

How investigators traced the culprits

A Special Staff team was mobilised to locate the suspects. By reviewing CCTV footage and gathering tips, police learned the duo intended to ride a motorcycle from Nanaksar to Usmanpur via Third Pushta Road.

Patrolling the suspected route, officers spotted the two men on a bike without a number plate at roughly 2:45 a.m. When ordered to halt, the men allegedly opened fire, prompting a police response that resulted in their arrest.

Profile of the accused

During the seizure, investigators recovered three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 rounds of ammunition and the motorcycle used in the incident. A background check on Jasim revealed an existing Arms Act case registered with the Special Cell, whereas Kaif appears to have no prior record.

Both suspects reportedly admitted to the balcony attack and said they acted on orders from a person identified as Rashid, alias “Cablewala.” Authorities are now probing the motive and whether additional accomplices were involved in planning or executing the attack.
