Kullu/Nitthar. A tragic road mishap in the Nitthar sub‑tehsil of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, has left the community reeling. Around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, an Alto sedan lost traction and tumbled into a roughly 500‑metre‑deep ravine near Seri on the Dwarch road in Durah Panchayat, killing both occupants on impact.

Eyewitnesses say the vehicle was travelling toward Durah when, close to Seri, it suddenly veered off the narrow stretch and plunged down the steep gorge. Villagers who heard the crash hurried to the scene and joined the rescue effort.

Retrieving the bodies proved arduous because of the gorge’s depth and the rugged terrain. Officers from the Nitthar police post, together with locals, worked through the afternoon on Friday. After roughly two hours of painstaking extraction, both remains were hauled up to the road and later transferred to the Civil Hospital in Nirmand for post‑mortem examinations.

The victims have been identified as Hari Singh of Shah, Lot Gram Panchayat, and Shyam Lal of Dwarch, Durah Gram Panchayat. The Alto was completely destroyed in the fall.

DSP Anni Rajiv Mehta confirmed the fatalities and stated that investigators are still probing the exact cause of the accident.
