Patna: Hundreds of exam aspirants flooded the streets on Tuesday, demanding that the Sub‑Inspector (SI) recruitment test be scrapped and re‑held, and that a fair investigation be launched into suspected irregularities in Bihar’s competitive examinations. The demonstrators marched from Gandhi Maidan toward the Raj Bhavan, carrying a 13‑point charter of demands.

The procession reached JP Golambar where police and CRPF units erected barricades. Some protesters scaled the barriers, sparking a brief clash before the crowd was redirected toward Dak Bungalow Crossing via Exhibition Road, where they were halted again.

Allegations Targeting the SI Recruitment Test

The demonstrators claim the SI exam for 1,799 vacancies was marred by procedural lapses. Citing an ongoing Economic Offences Unit (EOU) inquiry, they insist the test be voided and a fresh selection process conducted.

In addition, they demand an unbiased probe into the 70th BPSC examination, arguing that repeated assurances of inquiry have yet to yield tangible outcomes.

Romit’s Family Joins the Demonstration

After the tragic death of Romit, an SI aspirant, his mother and brother stood beside the protestors, pleading for accountability. They urged authorities to enhance transparency in recruitment exams and to act decisively against any malpractice.

Romit’s mother, in a tearful address, expressed that she does not want any other family in Bihar to endure a similar loss. Romit, a bright scholar who had cleared the NET exam, had dreamed of serving as a police sub‑inspector.

Demand for ₹1 Crore and a Government Job for the Bereaved Family

The protestors also pressed for a financial package of ₹1 crore for Romit’s family, along with a government posting for one of his relatives, arguing that his death highlights systemic flaws in the recruitment process.

Organisers warned that the movement would intensify if their 13‑point list is not addressed promptly and decisively.
