Initial claim of electrocution

On 3 October, staff at BPS Khanpur Hospital notified local police that a woman identified as Ramashwari appeared to have suffered an electric shock inside a flat at Sector 15, Sonipat. When officers arrived, they found the deceased’s daughter Janvi, a man named Vishal, and several relatives gathered at the scene.

Janvi repeatedly urged the police to forgo a full‑scale post‑mortem, insisting that the only injury was a shock transmitted through Ramashwari’s left hand. Vishal echoed her request, asking that any examination be limited to that hand alone.

After explaining the legal requirement for a comprehensive autopsy, investigators obtained the family’s reluctant consent. Because the body could not be examined immediately, it was stored in a freezer pending a next‑day post‑mortem.

Autopsy findings overturn the accident story

The medical examiner’s report contradicted the initial narrative. Instead of signs of electrocution, the autopsy revealed that Ramashwari died from asphyxiation, with clear pressure marks around her mouth and neck.

These findings prompted detectives to re‑classify the case as a potential homicide and to revisit the circumstances surrounding the death.

Suspects, relationships and possible motive

Further investigation uncovered that Janvi and Vishal were in a romantic relationship and were co‑habiting with Ramashwari in a rented house. Police suspect the mother’s disapproval of the couple’s plans to marry may have created tension that escalated into violence.

Vishal was taken into custody. During interrogation he provided a detailed timeline of the events on 3 October, which investigators are cross‑checking against forensic evidence and the autopsy report.

Forensic evidence and ongoing probe

A forensic team surveyed the flat where the death occurred. Items recovered included a double‑bed sheet bearing what appeared to be blood‑stained smears and an electrical extension cord—both being examined as possible attempts to stage an electrocution.

The case has been formally logged at the Sector 27 police station, with ASI Sanjeev assigned as the investigating officer. Authorities are now matching the medical findings with physical evidence from the scene and the statements of those involved to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.

Investigators stress that the investigation remains open. They will continue to analyse all forensic material, recovered objects, and witness testimonies before reaching a final conclusion.
