New Congress Leader Pays Homage at Bangla Sahib Gurdwara
Chandigarh – Fresh from being elected president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Pargat Singh spent Saturday at Delhi’s Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, bowing his head in prayer and contemplating the challenges that lie ahead.
Appealing for Unity and “Sarbat Da Bhala”
Addressing reporters after the visit, Singh urged Punjabis to stand together, invoking the timeless Sikh maxim Sarbat Da Bhala – the welfare of all. He reminded listeners that Punjab’s strength has always stemmed from communal harmony, a shared cultural fabric, and a collective sense of duty.
Denouncing Party Factionalism
When queried about circulating rumors of internal splits, Singh brushed them aside, noting that “differences of opinion are inevitable in any political outfit,” but insisting that the Congress must function as a single, united force. Positioning himself as a team‑player, he pledged to involve senior leaders in shaping the party’s future roadmap.
Sharp Critique of the AAP Administration
Singh did not hesitate to target the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, accusing the government of mismanaging public assets and the state’s finances. He described the current administration as a “sandcastle” that, in his view, will not stand the test of time.
Condemning Divisive Tactics of the BJP
The freshly appointed Congress chief also leveled criticism at the Bharatiya Janata Party, branding its approach as polarising. He called for Punjab’s political debate to focus on the state’s genuine interests and the well‑being of its people, rather than on divisive narratives.
Key Priorities for the New Leadership
Singh outlined his immediate agenda: championing issues that matter to Punjabis, bolstering the party’s organisational structure, and safeguarding the state’s tradition of social cohesion. His ascent follows the removal of Amarinder Singh and Raja Warring as state party heads, marking a fresh chapter for Punjab Congress under a collaborative working ethos.
