As the monsoon finally recedes, Nawanshahr starts to feel the first hints of autumn. The sun still dominates the sky, but the early‑day and evening hours are becoming noticeably fresher.
Nighttime Temperatures Inch Upward
Observations from the opening days of October indicate that the district’s minimum temperature has been oscillating between 21 °C and 23 °C. On October 1 the low settled around 21 °C, rose to 21.8 °C on the 2nd, and hovered near 22.3 °C over the next two days. By October 5 the night‑time reading was close to 22.9 °C. Though these numbers remain well above typical winter lows, they signal a gentle shift toward cooler mornings and evenings.
Daytime Heat Still Holds Firm
The modest drop in nocturnal chill has not yet translated into relief for daytime activities. Maximum temperatures during the first week of October have lingered between 33 °C and 35 °C, with strong sunshine keeping the heat intense. Residual moisture from the monsoon adds a slight stickiness, but the heat eases once the sun sets.
Historical data show that September has been volatile in recent years: the month peaked at 36 °C in 2023, 35 °C in 2022, and 34 °C in 2021. This pattern highlights how quickly the region’s climate can swing from one year to the next.
Isolated Showers on the Horizon
Weather models predict partly cloudy skies over the next few days, with scattered light rain and occasional thunderstorms in isolated pockets. A more noticeable cooling is expected later in October, when daytime highs should start to retreat and humidity gradually subsides.
Meteorologists point out that lingering post‑monsoon moisture continues to feed the current humidity levels. In addition, temperature fluctuations in the nearby hills often ripple down to the plains, shaping early‑morning and evening conditions.
Morning Walkers Feel the Difference
Residents are already sensing the change. Early‑morning joggers report a refreshing dip in temperature, and two‑wheelers find the dawn commute noticeably milder. Despite the pleasant mornings, afternoons remain firmly in the heat belt.
Looking ahead, October’s trajectory promises a gradual easing of the heat. As temperatures settle toward seasonal norms and humidity thins, Nawanshahr can anticipate increasingly comfortable mornings and evenings in the coming weeks.
