Homs, Syria – A passenger bus traveling close to the Masyaf Bridge in the western countryside of Homs was suddenly opened to gunfire, resulting in at least seven fatalities and four injuries. The vehicle was carrying employees of a local firm who were heading home after a full day's work.

Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that the shooters remain unidentified. The wounded were swiftly transported to nearby medical facilities, while security forces moved in to secure the area.

Investigation Initiated

Authorities have launched a formal probe to determine who ordered the assault and what motives lie behind it. No militant group or individual has claimed responsibility, and officials have not publicly named any suspects.

"We consider this attack an effort to destabilise the region and erode public safety," stated Brigadier General Bassem Mohammad Shaaban, commander of the Homs Internal Security Forces.

Forensic teams are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.

Workers Caught in the Crossfire

Initial reports confirm the bus was transporting civilian workers back to their homes after completing their duties. Emergency responders rushed the victims to hospitals throughout the Homs governorate, where they received urgent care.

Officials stressed that the inquiry will continue until the full circumstances are clarified and those responsible are held accountable.

Ongoing Security Challenges in Syria

The incident occurs against a backdrop of persistent insecurity that has lingered for more than 13 years of conflict, even after the ousting of Bashar al‑Assad’s government in December 2024. While the authorities strive for stability, sporadic shootings and violent episodes continue to surface across several provinces.
