Shimla. After a spell of dry weather, Himachal Pradesh is set for a rapid shift. The Shimla Meteorological Centre forecasts rain, snow at altitude and strong breezes across the state from October 5 through 10, and has placed a yellow alert on several districts.
Strong winds across multiple districts
On October 6 the outlook calls for powerful gusts in Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla. Wind speeds may peak at 40‑50 km/h, prompting authorities to advise residents to exercise caution in exposed areas and while travelling.
The following day, October 7, the breezy pattern could linger. Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla are expected to see winds around 30‑40 km/h together with scattered showers.
Rain and snow in the hills
Between October 5 and 10, isolated spots may experience light rain or snowfall. From October 6 to 9, most of the state is likely to receive light‑to‑moderate rain, while the higher terrain will see snow.
Snowfall is most probable in the high‑altitude districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul‑Spiti. Mid‑week should bring the most pronounced winter‑type activity in these mountainous zones.
Temperatures set to fall
The incoming system will push temperatures lower across Himachal. Minimums are projected to drop by roughly 2‑3 °C, while maximums could fall between 2‑5 °C, making early mornings and evenings noticeably cooler.
Recent observations illustrate the range: Una recorded a daily high of about 34.8 °C, while Keylong logged a low of 7.1 °C; Kukumseri and Tabo both recorded minima near 4.4 °C.
Precautions during unsettled weather
With thunderstorms and strong winds possible, residents and travellers should stay alert and follow the latest updates. Those navigating hilly roads need extra vigilance, especially if conditions worsen quickly.
The shifting weather may also affect tourism, road travel and daily routines in the affected zones. Anyone planning trips to higher‑altitude destinations should verify the local forecast before setting out.
