Deoghar. A coordinated operation by the Deoghar Cyber Police and Madhupur Police led to the arrest of four individuals suspected of running a sophisticated cyber‑fraud scheme in the Madhupur police‑station jurisdiction. Six smartphones and four SIM cards were confiscated during the raid.
The crackdown was triggered by a tip received by Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar. A special task force, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Prasad Mahto, executed the operation and took the suspects into custody.
The detained persons have been identified as Anish Das from Bariyahi Garha, Sumesh Mehra from Kharnna village (Sarath), Rahul Das from Rohini Ajan Tola (Jasidih) and Dinesh Das from Guniasol, all residing in Madhupur.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to masquerading as customer‑care representatives of popular digital payment services such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm. They allegedly lured victims with promises of cashback, PM‑Kisan subsidies, electricity bill discounts and even fake RTO challan waivers.
Once the victims trusted the callers, the fraudsters allegedly dispatched counterfeit APK files. After the victims installed the malicious apps, the perpetrators reportedly gained remote control of the phones, enabling them to siphon funds from linked bank accounts.
Investigators have launched a forensic analysis of the seized devices and SIM cards to map the full extent of the operation. Efforts are underway to identify all affected users and trace the flow of the allegedly misappropriated money.
All four individuals have been remanded to judicial custody pending further legal proceedings.
