Dehradun: In a bid to cleanse the city and eliminate disposable plastics, the district administration has stepped up its enforcement sweep across all 100 wards of the Municipal Corporation. Under the guidance of District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, officials are targeting anyone caught using, storing or vending banned plastic items.

A team of 50 sector officers has been mobilised to supervise the operation and guarantee strict compliance. To date, surprise inspections have been carried out at 1,776 commercial premises throughout the city, resulting in regulatory action against 762 establishments where single‑use plastic was identified.

The crackdown led to the issuance of challans to 550 businesses, with total penalties amounting to ₹1.96 lakh. Moreover, enforcement teams have seized and destroyed 532 kg of prohibited plastic.

Raising Awareness Alongside Enforcement

Officials stress that the campaign’s goal extends beyond revenue generation; it aims to curb the circulation of disposable plastics and educate the public on environmental stewardship. Traders and residents are being briefed on the detrimental impacts of plastic waste.

The administration urges both merchants and citizens to abandon the use, storage, or sale of banned plastics and to switch to sustainable alternatives. Achieving a clean, plastic‑free Dehradun, they say, will require collective effort—not just top‑down directives.
