Dehradun. Following a series of collisions on the Mohabbewala stretch of the Delhi‑Dehradun Highway, the district administration and police have kicked off an intensive safety campaign. After a serious accident on 20 September, the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police carried out a joint inspection on 21 September.
Technical audit of the accident‑prone stretch ordered
The officials instructed all relevant departments to conduct a thorough, technical investigation of the incidents reported in Mohabbewala. The audit will examine road engineering, identified black‑spots, speeding trends and traffic‑rule violations, ensuring that no single factor is examined in isolation.
Findings will feed into a detailed action plan aimed at mitigating hazards and curbing future crashes.
Road engineering and black‑spot analysis
Inspectors asked engineers to scrutinise the pavement design, drainage, signage and geometry of the stretch. Particular attention will be given to any black‑spots that consistently attract accidents, with recommendations for structural upgrades or redesign where necessary.
Speeding and traffic‑rule compliance under review
Overspeeding and other violations will be mapped through traffic‑flow studies. Officials have been tasked with identifying behavioural patterns that exacerbate risk, and recommending enforcement or educational measures.
Installation of prominent warning signs
To heighten driver awareness, large, high‑visibility signboards will be erected ahead of the dangerous segment. The signs will convey the presence of a high‑risk zone and urge motorists to reduce speed.
Rumble strips to be deployed
Rumble strips will be installed at strategic points along the stretch. The tactile feedback is intended to alert drivers who are travelling too fast, prompting them to slow down.
Rapid rollout of the action plan
The DM and SSP emphasized that the proposed measures must move beyond paperwork and be implemented immediately. All agencies were instructed to coordinate closely and prioritise on‑ground improvements.
Stakeholders involved in the joint inspection
Representatives from the district administration, NHAI, the Regional Transport Office and the police participated in the field visit. They exchanged data on road conditions, traffic volumes and safety concerns, underscoring the need for inter‑departmental collaboration.
Holistic approach to road safety in Mohabbewala
The comprehensive inspection follows repeated accidents in the area. By analysing engineering flaws, black‑spots, speed‑related issues and rule violations together, the authorities aim to craft a multi‑pronged safety strategy that delivers tangible results for motorists.
