Fast‑Track Growth and New Standards

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda highlighted the meteoric rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, pointing out that the hospital has already exceeded its original 750‑bed plan and is now functioning with 776 beds. In a remarkably short span, it has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty departments, covering everything from complex cardiac catheterisations to cutting‑edge radiotherapy and neurosurgery.

Surge in Patient Turnout

The outpatient department (OPD) has logged over 12 lakh consultations in the last four years, while inpatient admissions have crossed the one‑lakh threshold. During the 2024‑25 financial year alone, OPD visits topped three lakh and diagnostic investigations surpassed ten lakh, reflecting growing public confidence in the institute’s capabilities.

Academic Achievements and Leadership

AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its first MBBS cohort in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation marked the graduation of that inaugural batch, a milestone for the institute’s teaching mission. President Droupadi Murmu, who attended the ceremony, urged the new doctors to centre their practice on service to humanity and to extend quality care to the remote regions of Himachal Pradesh.

Expanding Clinical Capabilities

Beyond the rising bed count, the hospital now delivers a broad spectrum of high‑end procedures: major surgeries, cardiac interventions, dialysis, comprehensive diagnostics, and a dedicated cancer care wing. Faculty and staff have been praised for achieving this expansion at a speed that typically takes newer AIIMS campuses many more years.

Future Outlook

Minister Nadda expressed confidence that, within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the country’s flagship AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and patient‑centric services is set to cement its status as a premier hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
